1921

On 28 May, a meeting was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, chaired by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Baron de Coubertin, with representatives of ten Nations present. The following day, representatives of the United States, France, Japan and Sweden decided on the constitution of an International Equestrian Federation.

On 24 November, the first Congress of the new International Equestrian Federation was held in Paris, with Belgium, Denmark, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Norway and Sweden present. Baron du Teil of France, was elected as the FEI's first President. Cdt Georges Hector, also a Frenchman, became the first Secretary.



1924

For the first time, the Olympic Equestrian events - for the third time on the programme of the Olympic Games - were held under the jurisdiction of the FEI.

1930

The first FEI Dressage Championship outside of the Olympic Games was organised in Lucerne (SUI), in the form of a Grand Prix de Dressage. There were no FEI Championships in the other disciplines held before World War II.

1931

1st January: After having concentrated during the first years of its existence on establishing rules and regulations for the equestrian events at the Olympic Games, the FEI published its first comprehensive.
Rule Book. Rules for the Nations' Cup for teams of jumping riders, as well as for record-breaking attempts in both the high and the long jump were featured.

At the same time, the FEI published its first Bulletin. In its tenth year the FEI had a membership of 24 national federations.
 


1941

Only three official international events were held during the war years: 1940 in Rome (ITA) and New York (USA) and 1941 again in New York.

1946

The international activity resumed with Jumping events held in Switzerland, Dublin (IRL), New York (USA) and Toronto (CAN). On the 22nd October, the FEI Congress (Annual General Assembly) was held for the first time since 1939. General Baron de Trannoy (BEL), who had competed in the first two equestrian Olympic Games in 1912 and 1920 was elected as President of the FEI.
