DOHA;
Jordanian rider Ibrahim Besharat won the Masters event in
the Sixth Qatar International Show Jumping to claim the first
prize of QR 25,000 along with a Mitsubishi ‘Outlander’
car at the Al Rayyan Park here yesterday.

The
Jordanian stole the thunder with a superb performance
on his favourite horse Qwinto. The man and the animal
paired worked in tandem and total unity to execute a
flawless performance to finish ahead of Prince Faisal
Al Shaalan of Saudi Arabia, who finished second on horse
Rathwan and another Saudi Arabian entry Abdulla Al Sharbatly

who
ended up third on Ivoor.
The
level of the competition was so high and it was only a thin
line that differentiated the ultimate winner from others.
The
Masters winner was also presented the Qatar national Olympic
Committee Cup.

Earlierm
in the Qatar Equestrrian Federation Cup, which carried
a prize money of QR15,000, Qatar’s Mubarak Al
Rumaihi emerged champion on horse Hornist.
Mubarak came up with a remarkable performance, staying
thoroughly focused on the job in hand, to emerge a deserving
winner.
Saudi
Arabia’s Ramzy Al Duhami finishe second on horse
Midas. Ramzy managed to bring out the best in Midas
but ultimately the pair fell short at the finish to
end up second.
United Arab Emirates’ Mufta Al Dhaheri, on Qunita,
was third.

Earlier,
in the borrowed horses category Hong Kong’s Jennifer
Ren Hui Chang claimed the first prize, riding horse Laguna
Beach.
Ali
Al Khoafi of Kuwait (on Maxim) was second and Fernando V Barba
of the Philpiines was third on Babylone.
The
Championship will continue till tomorrow and the two main
events yet to be decided are the Asian Equestrian Federation
Cup and the Mitsubishi Cup (Grand Prix).
About
180 riders and horses from 38 countries are taking part
in the championship being held under the aegis of the
Qatar Equestrian Federation, headed by Sheikh Hamad bin
Ali Al Thani.

Bahrain, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan,

Korea,
Khyrgistan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Palestine, Philippines, Singapore
and Thailand and hosts Qatar are competing for top honours.
In view of the 2006 Doha Asian Games for which Qatar is gearing
up, the main focus on this year’s championship is on
Asian countries.
QRF
President Sheikh Hamad bin Ali Al Thani said that he was pleased
with the progress of the championship so far.
“The
level of competition is quite high and I am happy that the
Qatari riders are doing pretty well,” Sheikh Hamad said.
